The Ultimate Guide on How to Layer Your Outfits
It’s (finally) getting sunnier outside, but unfortunately, the temperatures aren’t following suit just yet. This is the moment where layering comes in handy! Let’s see how you can properly layer your looks to make the most of this transitional time and your wardrobe.
As the word already suggests, the crux of layering is to adding different layers on top of each other to create an almost insulated cocoon of clothes around your body. At the same time, you don’t want it to look bulky or seem like you have a bunch of clothes layered on top of each other, so it’s important to strike the perfect balance. One of the most important, if not the most important, point in that process is your base layer.
BASE LAYER
This one should consist of a pair of thermo-tights and some sort of top. The actual look and feel of this ‘top’ will depend on the look that goes on top of this base layer, but a winning combo is adding a tank top and layering a form-fitting long-sleeve or turtleneck on top of it to guarantee extra warmth.
Pro-tip: pay close attention to the material you use for this base layer. We’d recommend you going for something breathable like Polyester, Nylon-mixes, Polypropylene or Lyocell.
MIDDLE LAYER
This one will definitely depend on the look you want to go for, but when it comes to dressing for these transitional times, a good way is usually to work in layers when it comes to your top-section. For example, opting for a cardigan or blazer ensures that, if it gets warmer throughout the day, you can just peel a layer off.
OUTER LAYER
There’s a multitude of great options to top off your look and keep you warm. If you’re looking to stay right on trend in SS25, opt for a trench coat (preferably cropped, with broad shoulders or in a mix of different materials or styles), a sporty parka, leather aviator or biker jackets, suede bomber jackets, or padded blouson jackets.
OPTIONAL
… but strongly recommended: don’t forget to accessorise. A baseball cap, statement scarf or cute gloves can take your look to the next level, all while adding a supplementary layer of warmth when needed.
